My name is Andrew Lavigne and I am third year student of Archaeology at the University of Warsaw. I have previously studied and pursued interests in the field of journalism before beginning an education in archaeology abroad in Europe. My fundamental drive comes from the connections we can draw in our contemporary lives with the artifact material and historical records we uncover in our research in order to both better understand our own situation as well as to provide deeper avenues of thought in dealing with the past and present.
I have done archaeological work in the Ukraine and in Poland and have been fortunate enough to experience a great variety in the archaeological horizons, from the bronze age into contemporary archaeology.
My Bachelor’s Thesis is on Ptolemaic royal self-presentation on coinage, a topic that has certainly given me a new perspective on how archaeological material can help us to understand past mentalities and reconcile historical trends with the material culture that gives such rich and vital context.
